Swedish Rosepath Rugs Workshop

2-day Workshop

Friday and Saturday, 9:30am – 4:00pm. The room will be open from 9-5 to allow for set-up and cleanup; the room has been reserved for the evening/overnight so that looms will not need to be moved at the end of the day on Friday.

Presenter – Nancy Crampton

Workshop fee - $250. A materials fee of $20 is payable directly to the instructor at the workshop.

Maximum number of participants - 15

Skill level - Advanced Beginner to Intermediate weaver

Weave samples of rosepath with tabby, double-face rosepath, unbalanced rosepath, and many others. Participants need to come with a warped 4-shaft loom and will get warping directions ahead of time using 8/4 carpet warp. There won't be time to do a finished project or tote, but a person could put a long enough warp to continue to weave when they get home. Small folding looms work well, as do larger table looms. Rigid heddle looms aren't appropriate. The materials fee of $20 includes handouts and cloth strips for weft.

Using the simplest interlacement of threads, Nancy Crampton's rugs and tapestries show her involvement with color. According to Nancy, she weaves not only because she loves weaving but also because she loves the way color works on yarn and cloth. The rugs and wall hangings all use an age-old technique called tapestry. In tapestry, different color weft threads are used in adjacent areas of the piece, allowing the weaver to make a picture or shape in the cloth. These fiber pieces are woven using traditional materials, linen warp and wool weft, which are time-tested for strength and wearability. A source of artistic interaction and stimulation in the Kalamazoo area is her involvement with the Weavers Guild of Kalamazoo, Michigan League of Handweavers, and the Kalamazoo Arts Council.
