Presenter: Ellen Hess
This presentation considers the range of Summer and Winter weave possibilities and breaks down the aspects of developing Summer and Winter weave drafts in a straightforward and step-by-step sequence. A simple ground-up approach is used to develop design concepts and images using graph paper and colored pencils or weaving software. The techniques have been refined over many years of teaching this wonderful structure to relatively new weavers with remarkable results. This may be your season to enter the world of design possibilities offered by Summer and Winter weaves.
Textile designer and weaver Ellen has designed woven textiles for domestic and European textile firms. She teaches weaving and CAD at the Fashion Institute of Technology in New York City, and has taught at the Newark Museum, The Visual Arts Center of NJ, Brookfield Craft Center, Peter’s Valley Craft Education Center, and national/regional fiber conferences, including Convergence, MidAtlantic Fiber Association, and StitchesEast. Ellen offers workshops around the country.
