Designing Woven Cloth Workshop

1-Day Workshop

Location: Parish Hall, Grace Lutheran Church, 65 E. Main Street, Mendham, NJ
Date: Saturday, October 10, 10:00am – 4:00pm
Instructor: Janet Ducote
Skill Level: beginner to advanced
This workshop is about playing!  After each short, fun exercise, we will share what we did and discuss our discoveries. The exercises will come from different categories of design elements & principles.  (Note: to acquaint you with other elements besides color, beginning color theory will not be a focus.)

You will work with art materials such as pencils, markers, paper, glue, scissors, etc. These are a quicker way to try out these concepts than weaving.  As we explore and play, we’ll consider how we can apply what we are learning to cloth.

Instructor Statement: When I was very young, I would walk through department stores with my mother, touching every dress along the way. This was the beginning of my exploration of textiles, and I have never stopped. I became aware of my arts journey much later, even though it was there all along – all the vacations spent in nature, the craft fairs and exhibitions I attended, the countless magazines and books I flipped through, and the ridiculous number of websites and beyond that I perused. I still do them all today, and all continue to inspire my creativity.

I'm looking forward to sharing what I do, so that you too might bring some of it into your own arts journey, including into your weaving.

Cost: $75. There is also a $10 materials fee, payable directly to the instructor at the workshop. This workshop is currently open to members of Jockey Hollow Weavers only. The workshop will open to non-members during the second week of September if any places remain.
